A speed limit of 20kph to 30kph is now being enforced in Baguio City to curb the number of accidents in the summer capital.
The 20kph speed limit applies to the central business district and other major roads. Meanwhile, vehicles may travel up to 30kph on inner roads.
A measure mandating the above-mentioned speed limits was passed by the city council back in 2019. However, it will be implemented only now, as agreed upon by the city government, the Baguio City Police Office, the Land Transportation Office, the Public Order and Safety Division, and other concerned agencies.

From January 1 to May 29 this year, 377 accidents with eight fatalities were recorded in the city. In 2024, 313 incidents were recorded in the same period.
“This is to underscore the city’s commitment to public safety and the prevention of traffic-related injuries and fatalities,” said Mayor Benjamin Magalong. “Motorists are strongly urged to comply with these speed limits at all times. Let us work together to keep Baguio’s roads safe for everyone.”
Aside from procuring speed monitoring devices and sensors, the city government will also purchase breathalyzers to help catch drunk drivers. In addition, local police will implement Oplan DRIVE (Discipline, Respect, Infrastructure, Vigilance, and Education) to improve driver behavior, road infrastructure, and traffic enforcement.
