A team from motoring TV program Auto Review achieved a phenomenal 30km/L in a 1.3-liter variant of the all-new Toyota Vios, bagging the top prize in a fuel economy run organized recently by Bridgestone distributor Philippine Allied Enterprises.
The excellent fuel mileage was achieved during a drive from Petron Dasmariñas Village to Petron Clark, held to promote the new Ecopia EP200 tires that Bridgestone Philippines is making available to the local market this month.
Aside from the usual fuel-saving tactics like minimizing braking and coasting whenever possible, the Auto Review team also killed the car\'s engine upon reaching the toll plazas and instead pushed the car forward all the way to the toll gate.
According to Bridgestone Philippines, the Ecopia EP200 tire is designed with a horizontal ground contact shape, \"which decreases irregular wear and enhances driving stability.\" In addition, the Ecopia EP200 also has the tiremaker\'s proprietary Nano Pro Tech technology that supposedly lowers rolling resistance, which, in turn, lowers carbon-dioxide emissions.
In a test done by Bridgestone Philippines earlier this year comparing the Ecopia tire with a similar tire from a rival tiremaker, the EP200 was proven to travel an additional 3.15km on a fuel economy drive from Petron Marilao to Petron Subic.
As for Top Gear Philippines, we managed to squeeze over 19km/L out of the similarly spec\'d 1.3-liter Vios. Besides the EP200, two other Ecopia tires--the EP150 and the EP850--are also being made available to Bridgestone customers starting this month.
