We have some bad news to share with motorists from Cebu: the Cebu South Coastal Road (CSCR) tunnel will be closed for six to seven months to give way to repairs.

According to a Cebu Daily News report, engineers found “several hairline cracks” along with defective street lights during a recent ocular inspection. Cebu City Transportation Office (CCTO) assistant head Kent Francesco Jongoy confirmed that the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) will begin repairs on both lanes starting in July.

The CSCR tunnel is a high-traffic area, as it connects mainland Cebu to the South Road Properties, so many motorists will be affected by the imminent closure. In a separate report by The Freeman, however, Jongoy clarified that this will only be a partial closure and that the innermost lanes should remain passable to motorists.

The tunnel will be closed on July 17, right after the Palarong Pambansa which will be held from July 9 to 16. You can check out actual photos of the tunnel cracks below.
