Chinese New Year 2025: These roads will be closed beginning January 28

Ahead of this year’s Chinese New Year celebration on January 29, 2025, the local government of Manila City has announced road closures and alternate routes in preparation for the countdown celebration. Wednesday the 29th is a special non-working holiday throughout the country, of course, but if you’re living or driving through the area—or joining the festivities yourself—then take note of these affected streets and landmarks.

Chinese New Year 2025 road closures

Road closures begin as early as January 28, 2025. The Manila Public Information Office, however, has not released information on when the closures will end.

Beginning 12:01am of January 28

  • Binondo-Intramuros Bridge

Beginning 9pm of January 28

  • Jones Bridge (northbound and southbound)
  • Quintin Paredes Street from Padre Burgos Avenue to Dasmariñas Street
  • Jones Bridge
  • Plaza Cervantes

Chinese New Year 2025 alternate routes

Affected vehicles may take the following alternate routes:

  1. Vehicles coming from Reina Regente Street via Juan Luna Street, intending to use the southbound lane of Jones Bridge: Turn left onto Plaza Lorenzo Ruiz, right onto Norberto Ty Street, right onto Yuchengco Street, then left onto Ongpin Street en route to destination.
  2. Vehicles coming from P. Burgos Avenue or Taft Avenue, intending to use Jones Bridge: Head straight to MacArthur Bridge or Quezon Bridge en route to destination.
  3. Vehicles coming from Plaza Santa Cruz utilizing Dasmariñas Street: Turn right onto Q. Paredes Street en route to destination.
  4. Vehicles coming from Magallanes Drive going to Binondo-Intramuros Bridge: Go straight to A. Soriano Avenue to Anda Circle en route to point of destination.
  5. Vehicles coming from Muelle dela Binondo-Industria going Intramuros Bridge: Take Madrid Street, turn right onto San Fernando Street going to Plaza San Ruiz, turn left onto Q. Paredes Street, turn right to Norberto Ty Street, turn right onto Yuchengco Street, then then turn left onto Ongpin en route to destination.

Number coding suspension

The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) has officially announced that the number coding scheme will be lifted on January 29, 2025. Makati City, meanwhile, has previously stated that its number coding implementation is automatically suspended on weekends and holidays.
