The Philippine Department of Transportation (DOTr) recently called out a Facebook page on social media for spreading fake news about a new P12 jeepney fare.
In a post shared on Facebook yesterday, the government agency labeled information shared by the page PhilippiNews Trends as "pekeng balita o #fakenews." According to the DOTr, the fare hike petition by transport groups is still being studied by the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB).
The DOTr also reminded netizens to be careful about what information they see spreading online: "Paalala, ugaliing maging mapanuri sa mga balitang kumakalat online.
PhilippiNews Trends has since claimed that the post in question was shared by the page because the account of one of its administrators was hacked. It has already deleted the post and apologized.
