TopGear.com.ph Philippine Car News - DPWH clears road barriers to make way for Holy Week traffic

Department of Public Works and Highways secretary Rogelio Singson has instructed his agency’s regional and district offices nationwide to check their ongoing road work projects and "clear the national highways of barriers--including idle equipment--in anticipation of the influx of travelers this Holy Week."

Besides clearing the roads of obstruction, Singson also instructed his agency's field units to conduct road checks, specifically for the installation of directional signs, resealing of damaged pavements, and application of thermoplastic pavement markings before the Holy Week.

Affecting motorists traversing the Manila North Road are road works between Carmen (Pangasinan) and La Union; the Urdaneta-Binalonan-Pozorrubio-Sison section and Villasis in Pangasinan; road-widening works between Km265 and Km269 in La Union; and the ongoing construction of the Banban and Baruyen bridges in Bangui, Ilocos Norte.

Baguio City, which is a popular summer destination, also won't be spared with pavement-rehabilitation works along Kennon Road, "at Km236 to Km500, which is open one lane only." Affected motorists are thus advised to take Marcos Highway instead.

As for those heading south through Daang Maharlika (Manila South Road), road-widening works at the Tabugon-Santa Elena section and the construction of the Labo, Bulala, Cabuluan and Laniton bridges in Camarines Norte are expected to slow down traffic.
