The Department of Public Works and Highways is gearing up to rehabilitate another major thoroughfare, and this time it’s the 3,380km Maharlika Highway.
Also known as the Pan-Philippine Highway, it is the longest stretch of road in the country—extending through Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao. This will definitely be no easy task, but department secretary Vince Dizon is eager to get started.

He and other constituents will be inspecting highway segments in Bicol on January 16 and 17, to see actual road conditions firsthand. Roadwork and construction are expected to begin this year with an initial budget of P16 billion.

“For the first time, since the Maharlika Highway was built, there will be a massive rehab of the highway starting this year,” said Dizon. “When I say massive, we will fix all segments that are damaged from north to south.”

Neither Dizon nor the DPWH has confirmed when exactly the rehabilitation project will start or where construction will begin. However, the department aims to finalize the project’s design by the end of the first quarter of 2026.
With the EDSA rehabilitation project in full swing, Dizon also announced plans to fix up C-5, which connects the cities of Pasig, Quezon, Taguig, and Las Piñas. As it stands, major roadwork on the circumferential road will ideally start after construction on EDSA concludes on May 31, 2026. More as we get it.
