It looks like Mindanao might soon get a boost in tourism courtesy of some newly paved roads and bridges.

The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has announced that it is set to construct P1.8 billion worth of tourism roads, bridges, and slope-protection projects in Region 8, with agency regional director Pol Delos Santos calling it “our focus this year.”

Most of the budget has been allocated to Surigao del Sur, which gets P937,750,000 for 12 projects. This, according to the agency, includes the improvement of access roads to sights like Tinuy-an Falls, the Enchanted River, and Cabgan, Turtle, and Vanishing Islands, plus new roads to Baybay Beach in Barangay Dapdap, the Libuacan Cold Spring in Tagbina, and Harip White Sand Beach.

“Our instruction is to fast-track implementation of these projects for the immediate benefits to the Filipino people, and that is what we intend to do now that the General Appropriations Act is approved,” Delos Santos said.
