Could this be the final iteration of the EDSA Rehabilitation Project that has been haunting motorists and commuters throughout the year?
The Department of Public Works and Highways announced that the EDSA Rehab Project will commence on December 24, 2025, at 11pm. Initial construction will be done around the clock, until 4am on January 5, 2026. After January 5, work will resume on a nightly schedule, from 10pm to 4am.

The entire project is estimated to take eight months to finish, with May 31, 2026, as the expected completion date—a far cry from the original three-year plan, which was axed by President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. in June.

From December 24 to January 5, construction will consist of reblocking and asphalt overlays on the EDSA Busway. Starting January 6, reblocking and overlays will move over to other lanes on the north- and southbound sides of the highway.

The department shared that a new “stone mastic asphalt” will be used in the project, which should provide a stronger surface against heavier vehicles and drastic weather conditions. Vince Dizon, secretary of the DPWH, then confirmed that the whole project will cost P6 billion, a big drop from the original project’s P17 billion estimate.
According to the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority, the number-coding scheme will not be altered throughout the project period. However, it is unclear if the EDSA Busway system will remain fully operational over the next eight months. More as we get it.
