Commuting to and from Cavite might soon become a whole lot easier.

The Department of Transportation (DOTr) has just announced that construction of the LRT-1 extension to Cavite is set to begin in April 2019. The project will connect the existing line to Bacoor, Cavite, and will span 11 kilometers and add eight new stations.

According to the agency, the LRT-1 Cavite extension’s completion—estimated to be during the fourth quarter of 2021—will increase the rail line’s passenger capacity from just 300,000 currently to around 800,000 per day. That’s a significant improvement.

With this as well as the much-awaited Metro Manila Subway system (set to be fully operational by the year 2025) in the pipeline, things are finally beginning to look up for frustrated railway commuters. Let’s hope both projects meet their respective completion dates.
