The Department of Transportation has deployed a 20-bus fleet to support passengers aboard the Light Rail Transit Line 2. The LRT-2 Bus Augmentation Project pilot test is currently underway, with 10 units running between Antipolo and Legarda. Meanwhile, the other 10 buses follow a shorter route between Antipolo and Cubao.

Bus tickets will cost P80, but the DOTr has imposed a general 20% discount, lessening fares to P66. Students are also entitled to additional fare relief, which brings their ticket price to P55.

According to DOTr secretary Vince Dizon, up to 4,000 commuters are underserved on the LRT-2 during rush hours, with waiting times as long as 45 minutes. Having additional buses ready to accommodate passengers provides a quick solution, as procurement for new trainsets can take up to four years.

Dizon also mentioned that a public-private partnership for the maintenance and operations of the LRT-2 is in the pipeline. The department aims to finalize this plan before President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s term ends in 2028. Moreover, Dizon reassured the public that the government will still control the fares on the LRT-2.
