In light of the recent floods and heavy rains brought about by the last three typhoons and monsoon winds, the Land Transportation Office will be relieving penalties incurred by the late driver’s license renewal and vehicle registration.
Specifically, the LTO will be waiving the weekly surcharge that would have taken effect from July 21 to 25, 2025. With this, the validity of expired licenses and registration documents within that period has been extended to August 8, 2025.

The extension will also cover motor vehicles and motorcycles bought between July 21 and 25, 2025. Sales invoices will be dated to start on August 8 in order to avoid penalties for late registration of a new vehicle.

The LTO has also extended the standard 15-day settlement for traffic apprehension cases issued between July 21 and 25. Motorists with violations now have until August 8 as well to settle their cases and pay the necessary fines.
Regional offices nationwide have received this directive from the LTO’s headquarters. While the official list of ‘calamity-stricken areas’ has not been released, it is best to check with your local LTO center to verify if your documents and penalties are covered.
Those with expired licenses are also prompted to go through the LTO’s online renewal process to avoid visiting a physical office entirely. There, motorists can also have their driver’s license delivered to their home address or have it picked up at their regular LTO facility.
