If you pass by La Salle Greenhills (LSGH) regularly, then you’re probably familiar with how bad traffic can get there during peak hours. It’s mainly caused by vehicles stopping by the side of the road to pick up or drop off students. Unfortunately, most of these are considered traffic violations.

To give context on how bad the situation is, the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority logged 938 violations in the area through its No Contact Apprehension Policy from July 18 to August 14, 2025 alone. This was after 403 violations were recorded from July 11 to 17. The agency has since written a formal letter to LSGH with the subject “Reiteration of MMDA’s Concern on Traffic Congestion Around La Salle Greenhills” and shared it on social media.

“The MMDA reiterates its concern regarding the continuing traffic congestion in the vicinity of La Salle Green Hills, particularly along Ortigas Avenue, caused by student service vehicles.

“Despite prior communication, MMDA’s NCAP recorded additional 938 violations in this area from July 18 to August 14, 2025 (403 violations for July 11-17), including illegal parking, obstruction, and unauthorized loading/unloading, most of which occur during peak school hours. These violations directly contribute to severe traffic congestion, compromising not only the efficient flow of vehicles but also public safety and commuter welfare along this major thoroughfare.”

In the MMDA’s post on Facebook, some people have emphasized how this has been a problem for a while. Others also pointed out how it also affects traffic in other areas, like the EDSA Ortigas Service Road where motorists opt out of using the flyover and turn left at the intersection instead, just to avoid the congestion approaching LSGH. Other netizens are also pointing out how other school zones in the metro, such as Katipunan, also face similar issues.

The MMDA, or anyone for that matter, has yet to share any possible solutions. Who can blame them? The one-car-one-student problem isn’t easy to solve. Perhaps better public transport for students might be a good long-term fix? Tell us in the comments what you think, readers.
