If you keep up with the Facebook pages of the Department of Transportation (DOTr) and the Land Transportation Office (LTO), you’d notice that a concerning number of show-cause orders are issued to irresponsible and reckless motorists, on what feels like a weekly—almost daily—basis.
While these garner funny and lighthearted reactions on social media, eventually, these do get tiring to look at and internalize. At some point, the questions of ‘when will we learn?’ and ‘why, just why?’ get asked as the doomscrolling continues.

One of the latest show-cause orders was handed out to a driver who was caught swapping the plates on his Toyota Tamaraw. In photos and videos that are circulating online, it looks like the driver detached his official plates and placed a temporary plate with a different ending number. Presumably, the driver did this to avoid a coding violation.

As per the show-cause order, the driver is called to present himself at the LTO and explain his actions. He will need to be at the agency’s central office on August 22, and so we’ll probably know his actual reason for swapping plates by then.
Until then, his license is under a 90-day preventative suspension, and the Tamaraw seen in the video is placed under alert. We hope that he has a good reason for what looks to be a thoughtless and very illegal way of avoiding a fine.
