San Miguel Corporation, which leads the consortium that will take over the management, maintenance, and operations of Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) in September, has confirmed that curbside fees may be imposed on vehicles that linger at NAIA departure areas after dropping off passengers.
The confirmation came via a disclosure made to the Philippine Stock Exchange in relation to an article published by Business World.

“In other countries, there’s a curbside fee,” the article quoted SMC president and CEO Ramon S. Ang as saying. “In short, you are free to drop off your passenger for a while, but if you stay beyond [the allotted time], you will be charged. We are fine-tuning it; we are studying it.”

The same disclosure also confirms the plans of the consortium, called New NAIA Infrastructure Corp. (NNIC), to build a new off-ramp from the SMC-owned NAIA Expressway (NAIAX) directly to NAIA Terminal 3. The planned off-ramp will have a budget ranging from P3 billion to P5 billion. An underground off-ramp is also being studied as an option, according to Ang.
“If an underground option is not necessary, then it will be much cheaper,” he said. “We are assessing if an underground [configuration] is still needed, then we will build it.”
