At least for now

All eyes have been on EDSA over the past week with the government’s proposed rehab project for arguably the metro’s most notorious thoroughfare. Over the weekend, however, President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. suspended the implementation of the EDSA rehab, putting all discussions to rest...for now.

It went without saying that this effectively canceled the impending implementation of various measures, but in hindsight, we feel like we need to emphasize that this also meant the cancellation of the odd-even coding scheme that was set to take effect on June 16, 2025.

It doesn’t hurt to clarify things. The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority itself even made an announcement.

With the EDSA rehab project out of the way, those who were planning to panic-buy an EV or a hybrid to avoid coding can put aside their car-shopping...at least for now. When talks about this scheme resurface, maybe then you can start revisiting your preferred car dealerships. But until then, we need not worry about almost completely losing the privilege of driving our cars in the city.

Since you’re already here and we’ve got you reading, we’ll also take this opportunity to remind motorists that the EDSA rehab project does not go hand-in-hand with the return of no-contact apprehension in the city. So no, NCAP is not canceled and is still very much in effect. Perhaps more recent incidents ought to emphasize that.
