President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has announced that his administration will aim to operationalize the Metro Manila Subway by 2028. This statement was made while he was inspecting the tunnels by the Camp Aguinaldo station of the subway project.
There, he mentioned that at least the segment from Valenzuela City to Camp Aguinaldo should be open by 2028. That would make the whole subway line about 50% operational, with stations in Quirino Highway, Tandang Sora, North Triangle, Quezon Avenue, East Avenue, and Anonas up and running.

The true end of the subway line will eventually be in Bicutan, with an extension to NAIA Terminal 3. Once fully completed, it should be able to carry 519,000 commuters a day.

At the inspection, the President relayed his hopes for the underground train line: “Sana matapos natin ito hanggang Valenzuela by 2028. Baka pwede na nating i-inaugurate... Lahat naman ay nag-a-agree na kailangan bilisan ito para naman mas maginhawa ang kanilang pag-commute.”

He then thanked the Japanese government for its support in the subway project, as the Japan International Cooperation Agency has contributed a great sum towards financing the subway.
Previous reports stated that the Metro Manila Subway would open as far back as 2032. Since the project broke ground in 2019, construction faced several delays that mostly involved right-of-way disputes.
