On May 13, 2026, a viral video started circulating on social media showing a man in police uniform pushing a motorist off of his motorcycle, causing him to crash, then driving away. In a report by GMA News, the perpetrator was later identified as a police staff sergeant for the Quezon City Police District (QCPD).

In another report by the Inquirer, the hit-and-run incident took place along C5 road. Highway Patrol Group spokesperson Lt. Nadame Malang said that the police officer got irritated with the motorist after the latter overtook a truck. Afterwhich, the police officer caught up with the rider and pushed his top box. The police officer was also later found to be using a dilapidated license plate.

The police officer has been taken into custody by the QCPD and is facing criminal and administrative investigations. “Whether the suspect is a civilian or a member of our own organization, the law applies equally. Misconduct will not be tolerated, it will be confronted,” said National Capital Region Police Office chief Anthony Aberin.

Meanwhile, the Land Transportation Office has suspended the police officer’s driver’s license, alarmed his motorcycle, and has issued a show cause order. The accused will be expected to explain why he should not be liable for reckless driving, being an improper person to operate a motor vehicle, as well as violating the standards set on the proper use of number plates and the duty of the driver in case of an accident.
