Clips of a Porsche 918 Spyder plying through EDSA have been circulating on social media lately, leaving car spotters in awe. More recently, the LTO put out a show cause order on the owner of this very same hypercar. The charge? For having fake license plates installed while driving on public roads. The organization was able to identify and verify the Porsche’s registration documents, which revealed that it had a different alphanumeric plate combination on file.
The show cause order is directed at both the owner (supposedly a well-known actor) and the designated driver of the vehicle. The parties must surrender to the LTO’s Intelligence and Investigation Division to provide an explanation for the use of fake license plates and defend why their licenses should not be revoked or suspended.
As of writing, the neither the owner nor the driver of the Porsche have addressed the LTO’s summons. A 90-day preventive suspension is currently in place on the license of the driver, and the 918 is set to be impounded by the LTO’s Law Enforcement Services.

LTO chief Markus Lacanilao also made a strongly-worded statement in light of the situation: “Walang VIP sa pagpapatupad ng batas. Kahit sino pa ang sangkot, kapag napatunayang lumabag, haharap sa kaukulang pananagutan. Hindi magdadalawang-isip ang LTO na kumilos laban sa sinumang lalabag sa ating mga patakaran. Walang palakasan, walang palusot, at walang exemption. Ang paggamit ng pekeng plaka at pag-iwas sa mga obligasyong dapat tuparin ay hindi pinapalampas ng LTO.”
While we’re all fans of seeing rare cars driven on Philippine roads, knowing that it was breaking road rules we’re all supposed to follow spoils the excitement. The LTO also reminds all motorists to ensure that all the documents associated with their vehicles are legit and valid, including their license plates.
