They’ll also have to consult the commuting public first as well

Last week, news came out that the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) and the Metro Manila Council were looking at implementing adjusted working hours for employees of national government agencies to improve traffic. Now, the President has said that authorities are still studying the proposal.

In a recent event with the media, the President shared his thoughts on the matter.

“We’re studying it. If it works, we’ll do it,” said President Ferdinan Marcos Jr. “It’s not enough to talk to the traffic enforcers and the administrators of traffic that have made the suggestion. We also have to ask the commuting public kung praktikal para sa kanila. If it turns out that everyone agrees to it, I cannot see why it will be a problem.”

Say what you want about this proposal, but it’s true commuters must be consulted as well. The workforce that will be affected by these potential changes aren’t in cars—chances are, a good chunk of them use public transport to get to and from their workplaces.

For those who think this might be a good way to address traffic, note that there isn’t any confirmation yet. But at the very least, the President is considering it. As for those who think otherwise, chime in through the comments why.
