So, you’ve finally gotten hold of your brand-new license plates. Soak it in and celebrate, but keep in mind you aren’t out in the clear just yet: You still need to install that horrendous-looking—er, we mean fancy—RFID sticker that comes with it.
“Aw, man. Do I really have to?” Unfortunately for you, the answer is yes. The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) calls the new RFID sticker a “third plate,” and is requiring motorists to install it right smack in the middle of the windshield in the area behind the rearview mirror.
Not getting in line with this can net you a P5,000 fine, the agency says. So, say goodbye to that spotless windshield to make room for it. Check it out:
If for whatever reason, you lose or damage the RFID sticker, the LTFRB says you can request for a new one. All you need to do is bring an Affidavit of Loss/Dilapidation, and pay a replacement fee. The LTFRB is also requesting that you do not attempt to remove the sticker yourself in the event it is installed incorrectly.
So, what do you think of the RFID sticker? It’s definitely a step up in tech, as it will contain information on the car it’s installed on and its owner, but it isn’t exactly pretty to look at.
