To motorists who regularly drive to the Port Area in Manila City and take the northern or southern expressways, the Department of Transportation and Department of Public Works and Highways have good news for you.
The agencies have announced that the Skyway Stage 3 Section 2a will become operational by 2027. This new 1.2km, 2x2 elevated tollway will link the Skyway to the NLEX-SLEX Connector.

The DOTr says this new Section 2a will supposedly cut travel time to just 25 to 30 minutes from Skyway Buendia to the Port Area or to NLEX Karuhatan. It will also supposedly alleviate traffic on R-10, Altura, España, and Araneta, as the new road will also serve as an alternative route for trucks.

“Ang benepisyo dito ay ang sinasabi ng ating Pangulo na we have to cut travel time,” said DOTr secretary Banoy Lopez. “’Yung oras natin na nasasayang sa trapiko, sa congestion sa kalsada ay we can spend more of it sa ating pamilya. Ang makikinabang dito is around 30,000 vehicles per day.”
The DPWH is also fast-tracking the right-of-way acquisition and says that it is currently at 98%. Agency secretary Vince Dizon also said both San Miguel and Metro Pacific Tollway shave commited completion of the project early next year. “By first or second quarter by the latest, middle of next year, it’s done,” he said. “Laking ginhawa nito sa travellers both going North and going South. Malaking bagay ito na may second connection from North to South.”
