SONA 2025: MMDA to open zipper lane and alternate routes in QC today

President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s fourth State of the Nation Address (SONA) will take place later today, July 28, 2025, at 4pm, in the Batasang Pambansa, Quezon City.

To alleviate the heavy traffic along Commonwealth Avenue and IBP Road, the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority has opened a zipper lane on the northbound side of the thoroughfare to speed up the flow of traffic towards Batasang Pambansa. The agency has also recommended the following alternate routes for motorists passing through the surrounding areas.

SONA 2025: Alternate routes

  1. Vehicles traveling northbound from Elliptical Road (Quezon Memorial Circle) are advised to go through North Avenue, and then turn right onto Mindanao Avenue, then take another right onto Sauyo Road, or Quirino Highway, to head towards Fairview.
  2. Vehicles traveling southbound from Commonwealth Avenue can pass through Sauyo Road or Quirino Highway, and then turn left on Mindanao Avenue. They can then take another left at North Avenue to reach their point of destination.
  3. Light vehicles on C5 are advised to turn left on Magiting Street and then turn right at Maginhawa Street. From there, they can turn left on Mayaman Street, which will lead them towards Kalayaan Avenue and their point of destination.
  4. Trucks on C5-Katipunan Avenue are advised to take the Luzon Flyover, and then turn left at Congressional Avenue to reach their point of destination.

In coordination with the MMDA, the Quezon City Government also released the following re-routing plans to help motorists evade traffic.

  1. Vehicles traveling on Batasan-San Mateo Road are advised to turn right on IBP Road, which will then lead them towards Litex and Commonwealth Avenue.
  2. Vehicles traveling Commonwealth Avenue and IBP Road can turn right on Sinagtala, which will lead them to turn left on Dakila Street. That will eventually lead them to turn right back on Batasan-San Mateo Road. Alternatively, after turning right on Sinagtala, they can also turn left on Senatorial, which will also lead to a right on Batasan-San Mateo Road.
  3. Vehicles traveling from Commonwealth Avenue and IBP Road to Marikina and San Mateo Road can turn right on Filinvest 1, left on Jocson, right on Antique, left on Cotabato, right on Sinagtala, left on Senatorial, which will finally lead to a left turn on Batasan-San Mateo Road. After turning onto Sinagtala or Senatorial, they can also turn left on Kagawad Street and then right on Batasan-San Mateo Road.
  4. Vehicles traveling from Bagong Silangan-Violago Street headed towards Commonwealth are advised to turn left on Sampaguita Street and then right on Santan Street. That will lead them to turn left on Ilang-ilang Street, where they can head towards IBP Batasan Road. Alternatively, from Violago Street, they can turn left on Sampaguita Street, right on Santan Street, left on Jasmin Street, another left on Everlasting Street, and then finally, right on IBP Batasan Road.
  5. Vehicles traveling from Bagong Silangan-JP Rizal Street to Litex, Commonwealth, and Doña Carmen can head straight on San Vicente and then turn left on San Lorenzo. That will lead to a right turn on Santo Niño de Payatas, then a left turn on San Juan Bautista, another left turn on Santo Niño, then a right turn on Lansones, then a left turn on Payatas Road, and then finally a right turn to Soliven and their point of destination. Motorists can also opt to stay on Doña Juliana, which will lead them to Doña Carmen to their point of destination.
  6. Vehicles traveling from Marikina and San Mateo to Commonwealth Avenue can stay on Batasan-San Mateo Road and then turn left onto Congressional. That will lead to a right turn on Sinagtala and then a left turn onto Masbate. From there, it’s another right turn to Filivest 1, and then finally straight ahead to IBP Road and Commonwealth Avenue.

The MMDA will also be deploying 1,329 traffic enforcers, officers, and other personnel to assist pedestrians and motorists. The MMDA Mobile Command Center will be situated on Batasan corner Commonwealth, with the MMDA Communications and Command Center monitoring the roads from Pasig City.
