There was some grim news from Las Vegas, Nevada earlier today as a Tesla Cybertruck exploded just outside the Trump Hotel. The driver was killed and seven other individuals suffered minor injuries.
According to a report from The BBC, the truck pulled up to the front of the hotel near a glass entrance, after which smoke started to come out from the vehicle and then exploded. This was caused by fireworks and other incendiary items inside the bed of the Cybertruck, and Tesla CEO Elon Musk even confirmed on social media that it had nothing to do with the vehicle.

Musk also added that the Cybertruck even helped contain the explosion and directed the blast upwards. The glass doors of the Trump Hotel lobby weren’t even damaged. Heck, even the wheels and tires of the Cybertruck itself were left somewhat unscathed. Say what you want about this pickup, but at least for this instance, that polarizing design was probably what saved people from getting hurt today.
In a separate NBC News report, police said they are still determining whether or not this is connected to the recent attack in New Orleans. Clark County/Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Sheriff Kevin McMahill confirmed that the trucks involved in both incidents were rented from the same company called Turo, which reportedly did not respond when asked to comment on the situation.
This is a developing story, so rest assured that once we have more details, we’ll keep everyone posted.
