Expressway speed limit in the Philippines

Holy Week is almost here, which means summer road trips for most of us. So now would be a good time to familiarize ourselves with the specific speed limits on our major expressways. It's interesting how many of us don't know these figures by heart, so we have countless drivers unwittingly breaching said limits.

Of course, when we say "speed limit," we don't refer to just the maximum limit. There is also a minimum limit, because driving too slow can be just as dangerous as driving too fast.

Good thing there's the Toll Regulatory Board, whose website clearly lists down the speed limits for all major expressways around the National Capital Region, and we'd like to share them with you as a reminder.

For Cavite Expressway (Cavitex), North Luzon Expressway (NLEX), Skyway, South Luzon Expressway (SLEX) and STAR Tollway, the following speed limits apply:

Minimum speed - 60kph
Maximum speed for cars - 100kph
Maximum speed for trucks and buses - 80kph

For Subic-Clark-Tarlac Expressway (SCTEX) and Tarlac-Pangasinan-La Union Expressway (TPLEX), the following speed limits apply:

Minimum speed - 60kph
Maximum speed - 100kph

The TRB adds a simple note: "Always remember to follow the speed limits on our tollways to ensure safety and to avoid road crashes. Violators of under-speeding and over-speeding will be penalized under Republic Act 4136."
