Petron releases general locations of 21 decommissioned fuel stations

All of them outside Metro Manila
Jan 31, 2013

Yesterday, we reported here that Petron Corporation has terminated its contracts with 21 of its service stations, which were found to have sourced inferior and cheaper fuel from third-party suppliers and then sold it as Petron fuel. In the report, the decommissioned fuel stations weren't identified, prompting our readers both here and on Facebook to demand their identities.

So, we asked Petron for the list of the erring service stations.

"We cannot name them due to ongoing cases, but we can give their general locations," said Petron corporate affairs head Charmaine Canillas.

The general locations of the 21 fuel stations (including the specific number of stations involved) are:

* Tarlac (1)

* Quezon (2)

* Isabela (4)

* Aurora (1)

* Cavite (1)

* Laguna (1)

* Cagayan (1)

* Nueva Ecija (2)

* Negros Oriental (2)

* Negros Occidental (2)

* Iloilo (3)

* General Santos (1)

The 21 service stations, according to Petron strategic communications manager Rafael Ledesma, represent "about one percent of our total network count of over 2,000 service stations. No stations are located in Metro Manila."

Petron is hopeful that this announcement will serve as a warning to unscrupulous dealers in the industry. "This problem affects other oil companies as well, but we are the first to acknowledge that such a problem exists," Ledesma added.

It is unclear why the erring station mentioned in yesterday's report--located in Bogo City in Cebu--isn't included in the list.

UPDATE: Regarding the exclusion of Cebu from the list, Ledesma explained: "The one from Bogo City was detected and terminated in late 2011, and we filed the charges in 2012. So, the station is not included in the list of terminated dealers over the period of January 2012 to January 2013."
