Toyota Motor Philippines (TMP) hinted at the possibility of racing the all-new Tamaraw at the next Toyota Gazoo Racing (GR) Philippine Cup. If Toyota’s beloved utility vehicle could prove itself to be a capable race car, then it would only further bolster the lore and legend of the Tamaraw—truly a vehicle that can do it all.
With the 2025 Toyota GR Philippine Cup slated to start on March 20, we’re waiting in excitement for a fleet of Tamaraws to accompany those speedy Vios racers.

If you’re thinking that racing a Tamaraw is crazy and impossible, you’d be surprised to know that it has actually been done before. Over in Thailand, Toyota GR Thailand has sponsored more than a few Tamaraw and Hilux racing builds in the Thailand Super Series.
Those pickups have been modded heavily, with a gaping intercooler upfront to keep temperatures optimal. But at their core is a 2.4-liter turbodiesel engine which keeps this race in the realm of possibility. It would be exciting to see what our drivers, and the team over at Toyota GR Philippines, could do to a base Tamaraw. The liveries alone would be beautiful.
The first weekend of the 2025 Toyota GR Philippine Cup is scheduled on March 20-22, with the next weekend taking place on May 16-18. The third and final weekend will happen on August 7-9. Aside from the races, the weekends are filled with live music, games, and other fun activities around the track.
Here’s to hoping we see a herd of Tamaraws run around the speedway this year.
