Shelby American will mark the 50th anniversary of its iconic Shelby Cobra by releasing 50 limited-edition "street car" Cobras.

"Fifty years after its introduction, the Shelby Cobra is still an international symbol of high performance," said Shelby American president John Luft. "Combining a robust, powerful American engine with a lightweight European chassis was brilliant. Half a century later, the Cobra remains one of the most coveted cars in the world. Shelby's formula still resonates today and is followed by automakers worldwide."

Known as the CSX8000, the limited-edition Cobra will be painted in "Shelby black" and will come with Rosso high quality leather interior, Wilton Wool carpeting, 50th anniversary emblems, 15-inch chrome plated steel wire wheels, a serial number denoting the car as one of the anniversary models and other equipment that are exclusive to the milestone vehicle.

"Our CSX8000 cars incorporate safety and performance improvements without sacrificing driving excitement or originality," Shelby vice president of production Gary Davis added. "They retain everything from the authentic style leaf spring suspension to the graceful lines, but are upgraded to contemporary standards."
