SLEX toll hike moved to July 7

Motorists are in for a brief reprieve as the South Luzon Expressway (SLEX) toll fee hike intended for June 30 has been moved to July 7.

SLEX operator South Luzon Tollway Corp. (SLTC) suspended the toll increase for one week in deference to President-elect Benigno Aquino III, whose inauguration is set on June 30, ABS-CBNNews.com reported.

Aquino earlier expressed interest in reviewing the proposed SLEX toll hike. The SLTC is confident, however, that the new administration will honor its contract with the government.

Company spokesperson Alma Tuason said SLTC executives are planning to meet with Aquino to discuss the contract and provide documents to prove the toll fee increase is justified.

If the toll hike takes effect, the new rates from Alabang to Calamba will be P77 (from the current rate of P22) for Class One vehicles, P155 (from P43) for Class Two, and P232 (from P65) for Class Three.
