The Philippine National Police's Highway Patrol Group has recovered a stolen executive sedan while being mortgaged to casino players in Parañaque City.

Senior Supt. Felixberto Castillo, chief of HPG-National Capital Region, said that they received intelligence information that stolen vehicles were being offered for mortgage to casino players, which prompted them to deploy their agents at a casino on Sucat Road in Parañaque City last Friday.

The operation led to the recovery of a black Toyota Camry with a fake license plate (ZLT 698), in the casino compound. When the police team asked the driver of the vehicle, identified as Marcial Gantong, a resident of Bunsuran III, Pandi, Bulacan, to show the registration papers of the Camry, they found several inconsistencies in the documents. And when the HPG team conducted a background information check on the Camry, it turned out to be stolen while parked at the basement of Skyway Twin Towers in Oranbo, Pasig City, last April 25. The real owner is Esseline Raisa Sy Ong, reports said.

In his report to PNP-HPG Director Chief Supt. Leonardo Espina, Castillo said that Gantong was taken to Camp Crame, while charges of violating the Anti-Carnapping Act (Republic Act 6539) and Anti-Fencing Law (Presidential Decree 1612) are being readied by the authorities against him.
