Motor Image Pilipinas, the exclusive distributor of Subaru vehicles in the Philippines, claimed the biggest sales jump among local car distributors in the first half of 2009.

Subaru vehicles sold in the first six months reached 399 units, 96 percent higher than the number of cars Motor Image sold in the same period last year. It beat the 27.4 percent growth posted by Mitsubishi, which is the best performing brand under the Chamber of Automotive Manufacturers of the Philippines, Inc. The industry group said sales are down 2.8 percent in the first half.

Motor Image Pilipinas attributes its performance from January to June to the strong demand for the Subaru Forester, which celebrates its first anniversary in the Philippines this month. A total of 248 units of the crossover sport-utility vehicle have been sold since its launch in 2008.

Motor Image sold a total of 602 units last year, a 100 percent jump over 2007 sales.
