Volvo has made an already desirable car even better by fitting the V40 with an R-Design package, making it "a head-turner that radiates a truly stylish and dynamic look."
"The V40 R-Design is designed around the performance-minded individual with a passion for those things that add extra spice to life," said Lex Kerssemakers, Volvo Car Corporation's senior vice president for product strategy and vehicle line management. "The meticulous attention to detail covers the expressive design as well as the agile, precise performance."
Clad in Rebel Blue, the V40 R-Design's exterior package starts with the silk-metal framed high-gloss grille. Its dramatic stance is enhanced further by its diffuser, silk-metal finished details, twin exhaust tailpipes, and five-spoke, 17- or 18-inch diamond-cut wheels.
For its interior, the V40 R-Design has a gauge cluster that can switch between three layouts--Elegance, Eco and Performance--each with its own configuration and functionality but all with the same radiant blue hue. The driver also gets a specially designed steering wheel, gear shifter, handbrake and sport pedals. Helping to give the V40 R-Design's cabin a sporty aura are the new aluminum inlays with a perforated look, black leather, matching stitching and a black headliner. All five occupants have seats that feature a blend of black Nubuck textile and perforated leather, and are crowned by an embroidered R-design logo with a blue "R".
To give the car a sportier handling, Volvo turned to the Swedish racing driver Robert Dahlgren and the Volvo Polestar Black R team to stiffen the car's springs and shock absorbers to absorb lateral loads better. Its anti-roll bars have also been increased in diameter to contribute to the car's sportier drive.
According to Volvo, the V40 R-Design is available for all of the standard V40's engine variants--from the 115hp D2 diesel to the high-performance 254hp T5 turbo. In addition, it'll be made available in all markets that sell the V40.
"Previous R-Design models have played an important role in increasing our sales and lowering the age of our customer base," added Kerssemakers. "We believe that the new V40 R-Design will give this trend another boost."
