You can have the best of both worlds

Not too long ago, if you wanted power, you chose a vehicle with a big gasoline engine or a torquey turbodiesel. If you wanted an eco-friendly vehicle, slow hybrids or lumbering electric vehicles were the choices for you. But now, BMW Philippines says you can have both in the BMW X1 xDrive 25e plug-in hybrid.

Launched early this year, the X1 PHEV is the most affordable plug-in hybrid model under the BMW Philippines lineup. Priced at P3,398,000, the X1 xDrive 25e is powered by a 1.5-liter turbocharged engine and an electric motor, with a combined output of 245hp and 477Nm of torque. These numbers give the X1 PHEV amazing power on the expressway, easily cruising at triple-digit speeds.

But thanks to its EV capability, the X1 PHEV can be plugged in and charged, and be driven up to 100km in electric-only mode. That’s more than enough range for a daily commute around Metro Manila, even if you live in Quezon City and work in Alabang. Once you get home, just plug in your X1 and it’ll be ready again the next day. And if you forget to charge, just fill up the fuel tank at your nearest Petron.

This being a BMW, you get all the comforts and safety befitting the iconic German brand. There’s a high-resolution 10.7-inch infotainment display, plush Veganza upholstery, and a convenient storage shelf for wireless charging. For safety, there’s Collision and Lane Change Warning systems, as well as Blind Spot Monitoring and Rear Crossing Traffic Warning.

Most importantly, the driving experience lives up to the badge in front. You do feel a bit of extra chassis heft, but this also plants the X1 PHEV more on the road. And it is still a joy to drive, the hybrid engine propelling it from zero to 100kph in 6.8 seconds. Easily.

These are uncertain times, and some people felt they had no choice but to embrace the electrified life before they were ready. BMW offers the X1 xDrive 25e as the stylish choice, for those who want the feel and convenience of an ICE powerplant and the option to go full electric.
