The Hyundai Tucson is an underrated classic in our eyes. It was a go-to choice for families and yuppies looking for a subcompact SUV, just a bit before that segment dominated the overall market. Back then, the Tucson was able to provide comfort, style, and cargo space at an accessible price point.

And now, almost 20 years later, the Hyundai Tucson Hybrid is ready to compete in 2025. This latest iteration has all the good, classic stuff you love from the Tucscon, but improved with future-proof technology and updated safety features.

Watch: Hyundai Tucson Hybrid

Sporting a 1.6-liter turbocharged engine with an electric motor, the Tucson Hybrid has gotten a key modern update with its new powertrain. When working together, the engine and motor produce a capable 232hp and 367Nm of torque while charging the battery through the Tucson’s Smart Regenerative Braking system.

The Tucson Hybrid then combines its powertrain with Hyundai’s e-Motion drive technology to smoothen handling and suspension for a sturdy driving experience. Just like the old Tucson, but with more efficient and greener fuel economy.

On the outside, the Tuscon Hybrid keeps its classic impression, but with a few new builds and modifications. You will instantly know this is a Tucson, but you will also look twice to spot the differences.

The interior, however, gets a complete modern refresh. There’s now more space in the front row with the redesigned center console, and a sleek panoramic curved display up top ties together all the screens. Also, the Tucson Hybrid thankfully still makes use of tactile buttons and knobs for climate control and other essential functions. Drivers are kept alert through Hyundai SmartSense which is promptly shown on the 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster.

The Tucson Hybrid is kept safe through Hyundai’s extensive warranty program. New Tucson Hybrid owners will get a five-year or 200,000km warranty and a separate eight-year or 160,000km on the car’s hybrid battery.

The Hyundai Tucson was a no-brainer then, and the Tucson Hybrid is a no-brainer now. Check out our video on the Hyundai Tucson Hybrid to get a closer look at this classic Korean car.
