We may just be experiencing an electric renaissance, here in the 2020s. Electric vehicles, once expensive, custom-built curiosities, are now mainstream—and affordable. Cars such as the JAC Ytterby are pushing the boundaries of what affordable electrification means for the common motorist.
This JAC Ytterby PRO 505 variant features a 51.5kWh battery and 505km of range, more than any competitor in this segment. The battery pack features thermal runaway protection and is fully compatible with CCS2 chargers, meaning you’ll be able to do fast charging at provincial stations in a pinch, going from 30% to 80% battery charge in half an hour or less. Home charging at a rate of up to 7kW, meanwhile, takes 7.5 to 9 hours. And with a 134hp traction motor, this little EV can scoot from zero to 100kph in under 9sec to boot.

Beyond the performance, there is a big focus on safety. The Ytterby boasts true five-star crash safety ratings based on China-NCAP tests—one of the most rigorous safety-assessment programs globally. Key to this is the cell-to-body (CTB) construction, which integrates the EV battery within the bodywork. The result is improved torsional rigidity, a lower overall weight, and more controlled body roll and weight shifting for better driving stability. The Ytterby also features six airbags, two Isofix/Latch mounting points for child seats, and advanced electronic stability control, brake assist, and tire pressure monitoring. The PRO variant adds Level 2 driver assist to that, with blind-spot monitoring that also warns you of approaching vehicles when opening your door, lane-keep assist, and radar-assisted adaptive cruise control.
The PRO 505 isn’t just smart—it’s sexy, too. It brings the rizz with 17-inch tricolor alloy wheels and body lines that are a subtle blend of classic influences and modern shapes. Hidden door handles automatically pop out when you approach the car, and the powertrain boots even before you’ve taken a seat. The driving position is upright and comfy, with a simple, clutter-free control layout and all major controls on the steering column. No need to search about for buttons hidden under the dashboard.

Despite the Ytterby’s compact 2,620mm wheelbase, the space inside is comparable to that of a C-segment sedan, which means plenty of legroom in the rear. There’s also rear A/C—rare in this segment—and a ‘Pet mode’ that allows you to lock and secure the car while leaving the A/C running.
The Ytterby’s trunk holds a generous 250 liters of cargo, secure under a generous tonneau cover. And unlike many new hatchbacks, it also comes with a full safety kit, including a fire extinguisher, first-aid items, and a full-size spare tire, all neatly stored in an underfloor organizer.

Other convenience features include a cooled console box, USB-C and wireless charging for your devices, V2L charging, which lets you power small appliances when out on camping trips, and a big 15.6-inch infotainment screen and a strong six-speaker sound system that allows you to play movies while parked in air-conditioned comfort. This may just be a hatchback, but it may also just be the perfect getaway car.
On top of all this, the Ytterby comes with a full six-year warranty and an extended eight-year battery warranty, as well as a free portable charger and a free wall charger (installation cost is care of the customer). The range starts at P1,195,000 for the Air 405, while the PRO 505 is priced at P1,320,000.
