Our fast-paced lives have made everyday transport more challenging. We need a reliable vehicle that won’t break down, with connectivity features to entertain us on the road and help us navigate a complex metropolis—and beyond. We need space for family and friends, and cargo if need be. And we want a lively yet fuel-efficient engine to cushion us from fluctuating gasoline prices.

The 2024 Suzuki XL7 Hybrid delivers all these requirements, all wrapped in a handsome package that starts at just P1,252,000.

This SUV has a tall, confident profile that conveys its versatility and practicality. But beyond utility, Suzuki designers have incorporated design touches that elevate its style. The grille has chrome accents for an upscale touch, balanced by a black roof and dark cladding on the wheel wells. The result is a capable daily driver that can handle our grueling mobility needs, but can transform into a smart-looking carriage for special occasions.

The cabin reflects this balance of usability and aesthetic. The materials are strong enough to endure the rigors of daily transport, yet the dark interior palette and the satin silver garnish give an air of class at the same time. The new instrument gauge clusters, now done in soothing blue accents, give drivers a pleasant view behind the wheel.

For vital navigation and entertainment duties, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are available to stream your favorite retro playlist while helping you find the best route home, all rendered on a vibrant 10-inch touchscreen display. And to let you enjoy your favorite drinks on the road, there are ventilated front cup holders and bottle holders in the door pockets.

Depending on your mood, the XL7 Hybrid can ferry seven people in comfort, or carry up to 803 liters of cargo—that’s enough room to swallow almost any IKEA haul. The third row also splits 50:50 to let owners find the right balance of people and cargo space that they need. And that luggage tray in the back sure helps in keeping everything tidy.

Under the hood is an economical 103hp, 138Nm 1.5-liter gasoline engine paired with an integrated starter generator (ISG) that allows it to shut off in traffic to save on precious fuel. Based on a test done by the Automotive Association Philippines, the XL7 Hybrid can achieve 22km/L on the highway. This is made possible by the brand’s hybrid system, dubbed Smart Hybrid Vehicle by Suzuki (SHVS). The powertrain also assists the engine when accelerating from a standstill, providing better fuel efficiency. And on long drives, standard cruise control can help the driver conserve his energy.

Equally important are the safety features: front SRS airbags, hill hold control that literally won’t leave you hanging, electronic stability program, ABS with EBD, and a reverse parking sensor with a camera.

The SUV segment is very crowded right now, with aggressive entries from many brands. But the Suzuki XL7 stands out not just because it can reliably transport family and friends in safety, comfort, and convenience, but because it can do so in style. For the Filipino motorist who likes to look good, this can make all the difference.
