It wasn’t just the commuting public that greatly benefited from the advent of ride-hailing services in the metro. As the industry boomed, it opened up more opportunities for drivers and riders to earn a decent living.

Proof of that is then-rider and now driver for Xpress, Rustico Sacramento, Jr. He started with Xpress as a motorcycle-taxi rider about two years ago. The company eventually loaned Tatay Rustico a motorcycle, and after a year of using the bike for his daily trips, he was successfully able to pay it off. He has since upgraded to a hybrid car, now serving as one of the pioneer drivers for Xpress’ EV services. These days, he comfortably transports passengers around Metro Manila in a BYD Seal 5, a car which he also hopes to call his own somewhere down the line.

But Tatay Rustico’s story isn’t just about sheer grit and grind—the 60-year-old driver also shares how the healthy relationship between him and Xpress helped him to move up from transporting passengers on a motorbike to doing so with a hybrid car. He highlights how the company puts importance in taking care of its partners, and how the management treats its drivers and riders like family. He says these are also what allow for proper two-way communication across parties at all times.

Currently, Xpress caters mainly to Metro Manila, but it also has three-wheelers operating in Boracay with an imminent launch in Palawan. It also recently opened its full EV fleet in Bataan, with plans to expand further to other areas such as Bulacan, Pampanga, and Laguna. Through this expansion, Xpress hopes to open up more opportunities and empower the lives of more Filipinos.
