Every now and then, the Marketplace Finds segment in our podcast makes it out of the studio and into...well, our website. What we mean is that we actually find a secondhand car for sale that’s worthy enough of a feature here on Top Gear Philippines.
The last one we featured was a German classic, and this next one’s the same. Only less vintage. This is a 1985 BMW 528e, or an E28 as many of you might call it. It was recently posted by Aldous, a name you might recognize if you’re familiar with the local car scene. Think Porsche 944 with a GT-R engine. Yes, he’s the mastermind behind the famed ‘Porzilla.’

Anyway, back to his E28. This car looks like it’s in excellent shape. We weren’t able to see it firsthand, although some of the images show some wear on the interior, specifically the steering wheel. But that’s to be expected in a 40-year-old car. Overall, it still looks like it’s in tip-top shape. The photos show that the dash, center console, and door panels are all very much intact.

This particular unit comes equipped with an M technik kit, a Turner performance chip, 17-inch Schnitzer wheels shod in Yokohoma Advan dB tires, and D2 racing coilovers. While we didn’t ask for actual engine output and such, we know that this ’85 528e comes packing a 2.7-liter in-line-six engine mated to a four-speed automatic transmission. Factory output was rated at about 121hp and 240Nm of torque.

The E28 is the second-generation 5-Series, and it replaced the E12. It comes from the era of Bimmers sporting the small kidney grilles, a stark contrast to what the front fascias of modern BMWs look like but still where the design language was derived from. According to our resident German car nut Anton Andres, the 528e was specifically made for the US market but was also sold in Europe as the 525e. The ‘e’ stands for ‘efficiency,’ as the engine was built to “mimic a diesel so it had a low redline but high torque.” The more you know, guys.
So, for the final asking price? P1 million flat.

Emphasis on final because Aldous’ post in one of the BMW enthusiasts’ groups on Facebook reads: “Interested parties can send me a message to schedule a viewing in Makati City. Asking for last price won’t be entertained. No trades, no swaps.
“Also, before messaging, already seek clearance from your wife, girlfriend, or special someone.”
Well, we can’t argue with any of that. If you’re interested, just look Aldous Aldwin up on Facebook.
