Rugged body-on-frame construction, four-wheel-drive, and removable tops and doors—these are words normally used to describe Jeep’s Wrangler. Now, these words can also be applied to Ford’s revived Bronco. For this spec-sheet brawl, we’ll be comparing the new Ford Bronco Outer Banks with Sasquatch Package and the refreshed Jeep Wrangler Sport. How will the new challenger stack up against the established rugged SUV? Let’s find out.

Both SUVs are powered by turbocharged gasoline engines, the Ford packs a 2.7-liter 330-horsepower V6 while the Jeep gets a smaller 2.0-liter 268hp four-banger. Both are only available with automatic transmissions—the Bronco comes with a ten-speed unit, whereas the Wrangler has an eight-speed tranny.

One of the biggest differences between the two is the front suspension systems. The Ford has an independent double-wishbone front suspension and a rigid axle set up at the rear. The Jeep, on the other hand, sticks to the traditional rigid axles on both front and rear. In the tire department, the Bronco rocks 34.4-inch diameter 315/70 R17 rubber, while the Wrangler is shod with 31.5-inch diameter 245/75 R17 rollers.

Inside, the Ford gets a 12-inch touchscreen while the refreshed Jeep comes with a slightly larger 12.3-inch display. Both vehicles feature premium audio systems, with a ten-speaker B&O setup for the Bronco and a nine-speaker Alpine setup for the Wrangler. Both off-roaders get wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. In the safety department, both SUVs have six airbags, which of course includes curtain airbags. As mentioned earlier, the top and doors are removable on both the Bronco and the Wrangler.

As of this writing, the Bronco Outer Banks with Sasquatch Package stickers for P4,998,000, while the refreshed Wrangler Sport carries a price tag of P4,790,000. For those wondering, there is no direct Jeep equivalent of this Bronco variant. Jeep’s counterpart for the Outer Banks variant is the Sahara luxury trim, which cannot be paired with Jeep’s big tire Xtreme 35 Package. For reference, the standard pre-facelift Wrangler Sahara is priced at P5,290,000.

Are you team Bronco or team Wrangler? Still not sure which off roader you prefer? Take a look at the table we prepared below and let us know which of these tough SUVs you’d like to take on your next adventure.

Note that the dimensions for the Wrangler Sport were taken from a similar overseas spec model. The figures for the width do not include the side mirrors.
