Now that All Saints' Day is over, the holiday vibe is shifting into high gear--if it hasn’t already. For us in the working class, that means shopping for gifts for loved ones.
If there happens to be a car guy on your Christmas list, we may have found a way to tick him off your list easily.
While browsing in the men’s section of the Rustan’s department store in Makati, we saw a whole rack of these Autodrive USB flash drives. These are USB drives in the form of sports cars, rendered in 1:72 scale. As you can see in the photos, there’s an interesting selection of car models to choose from.
Among the vehicles we saw were: Porsche 911 (991 generation), Lamborghini Aventador, Mercedes-Benz 300SL, Lotus Exige S, Audi R8 V10, Nissan GT-R, and our bet for what will run out first, Toyota 86.
The cars are die-cast metal, so they’re nearly as sturdy as scale-model toys. We were given one, a Beetle, by Volkswagen Philippines, and we were able to play with it for a bit. If not for the retracted USB plug in the back (which lies flush with the body when not in use), you would think it’s a typical die-cast car.
When you plug in the 8GB drive, the headlights flash when your computer reads the flash disk, then just stay lit while it remains slotted in. For the 8GB capacity drive, the price is P950. Higher and lower capacities are available according to the retail packaging, but we didn’t see any other data size among the Autodrive USB cars on display.
So if you have a car guy (or babe) in your family or among your friends, you know what to give him (or her). Now he/she finally has the perfect place to store Top Gear episodes in.
