Honda Philippines (HPI) has finally heeded the public’s call and brought in the Rebel 500’s bigger brother, the Rebel 1100. We all waited quite a bit for this one.

It arrived with a bang at the 2023 Makina Moto Show, debuting alongside the XL750 Transalp and the CL500. It enters the market as one of the biggest-displacement bikes in Honda’s lineup.

We know you guys have a lot of questions about this one, so we’re going to dive deep into the Honda Rebel 1100 in this article. We’ll take a look at all the numbers and figures and see all there is to it with this new cruiser bike. If you’re as curious as the most of us, then read on.

The price tag is arguably the most shocking part of the launch. HPI is selling the new Honda Rebel 1100 at just P650,000. For comparison, the Rebel 1100 has more than twice the displacement as the Rebel 500 without even doubling the latter’s price tag. That should give you an idea why this new liter bike’s being touted as ‘affordable.’

Design and dimensions

If you’re familiar with Honda’s bikes, then you know how there’s really nothing new about the Rebel 1100’s design. It’s basically a replica of the 500, bearing the same look as the smaller cruiser bike it’s based on. A round LED headlamp up front, a high-mounted fuel tank, and two separate seats for the rider and the pillion. The main difference you’ll see at first glance is the stock exhaust—the 1100 gets twin tailpipes whereas the 500 only gets one.

But if you take a closer look at the Rebel 1100, you’ll also be able to see how it’s visibly bigger than the 500. The former measures 2,243mm long, 834mm wide, and 1,116mm tall with a 1,518mm wheelbase. That makes it 37mm longer, 12mm wider, and 23mm taller than the latter. Wheelbase is also up by 28mm.

The 1100 also has a bigger 18-inch front wheel shod in 130/70 tires, while the 16-inch rear wheel from the 500 is retained albeit with bigger 180/70 tires. Seat height is still the same at 690mm. Of course, the Rebel 1100 is much heavier at 233kg, which is 42kg up from the Rebel 500’s listed curb weight.

Color options for the Rebel 1100 are Iridium Gray Metallic and Gunmetal Black Metallic.

Engine and specs

Powering the new Honda Rebel 1100 is a 1,083cc liquid-cooled, parallel-twin gasoline engine that generates 85.8hp at 7,000rpm and 98Nm of torque at 4,750rpm. This engine is mated to a six-speed dual-clutch transmission, a first for its segment.

This powertrain and gearbox are both derived from the Africa Twin. In the same fashion, the Rebel also has buttons on the handlebars that allow the rider to change gears in lieu of a traditional toe shifter.

The Rebel 1100 gets a 330mm floating single disc brake up front and a 256mm single disc brake at the rear. It also features a preload-adjustable suspension setup.

Extra features

Though the Honda Rebel 1100 shares a lot of similarities with the Africa Twin, it doesn’t get all of the creature comforts in the adventure bike. The latter can be spec’d with an Android Auto- or Apple CarPlay-capable digital instrument cluster (depending on the market), while the former only comes with a small round LCD gauge that’s basically a small upgrade from the Rebel 500’s. Not that it’s a bad thing, of course, because it does still cover all of the basics.

The Rebel 1100 does get a USB-C charger and, of course, ABS as standard.
