It's rare that you come across a vehicle the size of the Mazda CX-3 with all-wheel drive that doesn't bear a blue badge with stars. And yet, the top-of-the-line variant of this diminutive crossover delivers exactly that.
Now, we're not using the term 'diminutive' in a bad way. As you might know, the CX-3 is basically a taller version of the Mazda 2, meaning it's built on the same platform. That explains its dimensions. To put it in perspective, its 160mm ground clearance is lower than that of the Ford EcoSport's, and it's evident from the moment you take the wheel. And speaking of sitting down, the space you get inside is about as cozy as the hatchback, too.
Diminutive still doesn't mean that all those things are bad, though. Once you put the pedal down, Mazda's emphasis on the driving experience becomes evident. You're treated to a crossover that was designed for driving enjoyment. The 146hp on tap is fun to throw around, and the driver-centric controls are easy to handle when you opt to just cruise. The all-wheel-drive, meanwhile, adds precision and weight with every turn of the wheel. Yes, it's diminutive, but still oh-so-delightful to drive.
