At the start of the decade, before crossovers boomed in our market and flooded our streets, the Mitsubishi ASX emerged as a likeable frontrunner in the big-but-not-too-big segment. These days, though, it's been eclipsed by dominant latecomers, resulting in Mitsu's vehicle playing the part of aging pioneer. With a facelift launched earlier this year, how does it stack up?
In our opinion, the recent facelift gives the design some much-needed sportiness to match the car's sprightly handling. The front fascia is now based on the carmaker's Dynamic Shield Concept, bringing it up to contemporary design standards. Also new are the slick two-tone alloy wheels.
Inside, the top-of-the-line GSR variant gets leather seats with red stitching, plus a panoramic glass roof with LED illumination. The aluminum pedals and magnesium paddle shifters cap off the new package. The nameplate might be getting up there in age, but this facelift should rejuvenate its reputation. Still, we can't wait to see what the all-new one will look like—rumor has it that it'll be revealed before the decade ends.
