The recently launched Mitsubishi Xpander is a newcomer to a segment that can somewhat be attributed to the Honda BR-V. When the Honda launched it in late 2016, it was a bit confusing to categorize it in a particular segment. Was it an SUV? An MPV? A really big crossover?
It was, it turns out, something between an SUV and an MPV. Smaller than a Toyota Innova, but larger than an Avanza. With the departure of AUVs like the Mitsubishi Adventure and Isuzu Crosswind, vehicles like the BR-V and Xpander are their spiritual successors, people haulers designed for the Asian market that are still within many people's budgets.
So how does the newcomer stack up against the pioneer? Both run on 1.5-liter gasoline engines, deliver power to their front wheels, and seat seven people. Here we compare the two variants that are nearly identical in price. Check out our table below and give us your verdict in the comments.
