9 Times upscale carmakers failed at designing home decor

Even if you were a hardcore fan of a brand, would you buy any of these?

1) Bugatti Home Chiron Dormeuse

It’s a close-run thing, but we reckon the W16-engined hypercar was probably a slightly better tribute to Louis Chiron than this Bugatti-branded dormeuse. And yes, we did have to look up what a dormeuse was before writing this.

2) Bentley Verve Coffee Table

Surely Bentley’s furniture collection should be full of wingback chairs and oak dressers? This modern glass and metal creation would stick out like a sore thumb in a country cottage. And is it really a good idea to have a curved surface on a coffee table?

3) Mercedes-Benz Espresso Cups

Ah, yes, because as soon as someone mentions an espresso, we immediately think of the Germans. Wait, that’s not quite right, is it? Still, Mercedes-Benz will happily put on its best Italian accent and sell you this horrible porcelain espresso set. No shame.

4) Porsche 911 Soundbar 2.0 Pro

For the bargain price of just £8,300 (over P650,000), you could have this virtual surround sound system that Porsche makes from a 992 GT3 exhaust. Or, you know, you could spend that cash on a full 987 Boxster or a 944.

5) Giorgetti Maserati Ploto

“Ploto floats in space, transforms, and offers maximum freedom of function and movement,” says Maserati’s interior design partner Giorgetti. But what actually is it? We think possibly some kind of coffee table or portable desk.

6) Pagani Arte Iconic Sofa

Ever feel like your sofa could do with a bit of lightweighting? Thankfully, Horacio Pagani agrees, and in 2024 he unveiled Pagani Arte, a new division that makes furniture from the same materials that make up its hypercars. Carbon-fiber three-piece suite, anyone?

7) Tonino Lamborghini Carbon Imola Chair

It may wear a raging bull logo, but Tonino Lamborghini isn’t affiliated with Automobili Lamborghini. The company was founded and is still run by Ferrucio’s son Tonino, so this is technically still a Lamborghini armchair.

8) Jaguar Ultimate Pet Bowl

It may not be making any cars right now, but Jaguar is still keeping its designers busy by having them sketch...a dog bowl. It features a “refined ombre effect,” but we can’t help noticing it needs updating with the new logo. Would look better in pink, too.

9) Aston Martin Home V256 President Chair

Want to do your best Dr. Evil/Lawrence Stroll impression? This is a £5,300 (P415,000) office chair by Aston Martin Home with proper fabric trim. Reckon you could ask for one of these instead of the lightweight chairs in a Valkyrie?
