2010, the year Red Dead Redemption first arrived on PS3 and Xbox 360. We wondered when the PC version would land? We mused: “Probably in a few months.”

Guess again, clueless gamers of decades past. Rockstar’s just announced the PC version of Red Dead Redemption and its expansion, Undead Nightmare, will arrive on 29 October, later this year.

Which is fine—thanks for it, and everything, Rockstar. But weren’t you busy with anything else at the moment?

Red Dead Redemption Undead Redemption expansion

GTA 6’s trailer has broken records for the most views within 24 hours, and one week. People are quite excited about it, and have remained so in the interminable vacuum of information that Rockstar has brought about with its utter silence since that trailer almost one year ago.

And now without a reference to that massive blockbuster project, the renowned studio casually mentions that at this exact moment, it’s decided to release a PC version of Red Dead after 14 years. Only Rockstar could get away with such cruel impudence.

Anyway, there have been whispers of Red Dead finally coming to PC throughout 2024, and as reported by Eurogamer, a PlayStation store listing earlier in the year revealed some of the details: “In collaboration with Double Eleven, this new version adds PC-specific enhancements including native 4K resolution at up to 144hz on compatible hardware, monitor support for both Ultrawide (21:9) and Super Ultrawide (32:9), HDR10 support, and full keyboard and mouse functionality. There’s also support for NVIDIA DLSS 3.7 and AMD FSR 3.0 upscaling technologies, NVIDIA DLSS Frame Generation, adjustable draw distances, shadow quality settings, and more.”

So we can have a go at being cowboys again before we embark on our modern-day Bonnie and Clyde adventure in GTA 6. There are worse outcomes, we suppose.
