This Chinese company claims its SUV can, um, ‘cure diarrhea’

Skyworth has other bold health claims, too

Every time a new car is launched, automakers will make various claims about it. We’ve heard it all before, from more powerful and efficient, to more spacious and safer than ever before. But Chinese company Skyworth has left our heads scratching.

Skyworth who? Skyworth is a company that’s known for its home appliances in its home market. Its core products are televisions and cable boxes, but it’s now decided it should dabble into the world of making cars. Its first product will be called the EV6. We’re not to sure if Kia will approve of that.

In case you skipped the headline, the Skyworth EV6 can supposedly ‘eliminate habitual diarrhea’. How, you ask? Well, the company didn’t mention anything about it. As far as we can tell, all we have going for here is the equivalent of ‘trust me, bro’. If you’re reading this and you happen to be a medical professional, we’d like to hear your opinion on how a car can cure diarrhea.

But the madness and bold claims didn’t stop there. The EV6 can also offer ‘high blood pressure relief’ and ‘respiratory disease improvement’ among other things. Their words, not ours. Again, we’re calling on medical professionals to weigh in here. A ‘No approved therapeutic claims’ label might come in handy here.

Digging deeper, Chinese news media quoted Skyworth Automobile founder Huang Hongsheng making these bold claims. “Skyworth cars can relieve high blood pressure, improve immunity, and eliminate habitual diarrhea. Since driving Skyworth electric cars, my high blood pressure, diabetes and other problems have been cured,” said the executive. To top it all off, Hongsheng added that the car can “extend its (the driver’s) life by 30 years, allowing each car owner to enjoy a hundred years of life.”

At this point, you’re probably wondering about specs. Thankfully, there are some technical details available for this, um, medical breakthrough on wheels. It’s powered by a single electric motor that makes 201hp and 320Nm of torque. There are three battery packs to choose from, namely in 52kWh, 72kWh or 86kWh sizes. Estimated range for each battery capacity is up to 402 km, 520 km, and 620 km, respectively.

So, if you know someone who suffers from high blood pressure, respiratory issues and, er, the runs, there’s only one SUV to get.
