It’s been four years since the Tesla Cybertruck was first shown as a concept. Heck, it was previewed as far back as 2019, but it was hit by one delay after another. But finally, it’s here and it’s the real deal this time around.
At the time of its first showing, Tesla made several bold claims about its first-ever pickup. One of them was it was bullet-resistant. Sure, there are several automakers offer a lightly-armoured version of their cars, but the Cybertruck is said to have the ability to deflect bullets right out the box.

Well, we waited four years to see proof of that, and Tesla is keen to show off this, um, unique feature. With live rounds, nonetheless. We wouldn’t advise anyone to see how strong the armouring is with their personal Cybertrucks…or with any other car.
So, why did Tesla even claim this in the first place? See, the truck’s body is composed of 1.8mm thick steel. The automaker says it’s strong enough to deflect 9mm and/or .45 caliber rounds. Of course, seeing is believing, so Tesla shot up one of its trucks to prove that point.

Obviously, the armoring in the Tesla Cybertruck isn’t of the bomb-resistant variety like what you’d see in some Land Cruisers. Still, it does a decent job resisting small caliber rounds. We still wouldn’t want to put that to the test, though. But if we find ourselves in a rough area with bandits packing handguns, we wouldn’t mind being in a Cybertruck in that case.
