Now, this was a fun one. The Toyota Land Cruiser is one of the most popular nameplates in the Philippines, and in 2024, it received a rather compelling competitor in the Y63 Nissan Patrol. Of course, we had to pit these two SUVs in The Big Test, and the results were interesting to say the least.
While these are both full-size, three-row cars with twin-turbo V6 engines, differences in displacement, engineering, and price made the comparisons more complex. Not to mention that the Land Cruiser 300 runs on diesel, while the Patrol uses gasoline.

In terms of power, the Land Cruiser’s 3.3-liter turbodiesel mill makes 302hp and 700Nm of torque, while the Patrol’s 3.5-liter combustion engine does a punchier 425hp, but a similar 700Nm. Nissan’s prized SUV also features air suspension, which the LC does not have.

However, at the end of the day, both—unsurprisingly—proved to be deeply comfortable and powerful vehicles. No matter where you choose to spend your P5 million, you will be getting a more-than-capable 4x4 with a lot of heritage and pride.
