Goodyear upcycles track-worn slicks into living room conversation pieces

The next conversation piece for your living room could come straight from the racetrack. Goodyear is upcycling its Eagle-series tires used in endurance racing events like the World Endurance Championship and the European Le Mans Series by selling them to fans as part of table DIY kits. While other tire brands shred spent racing slicks, Goodyear is instead cleaning them up to flip them as motorsport memorabilia.

Granted, projects to turn tires into furniture aren’t new. A quick Google search for “racing tire table” returns plenty of images showing completed projects using both replicas and genuine articles from other racing series and brands like Formula 1 Pirellis and DTM Michelins. Goodyear still stands out from these by offering these race-worn tires themselves directly to customers, complete with certification of authenticity.

A configurator on Goodyear’s website offers customers options for which race they’d like to get used tires from. Naturally, this means every race only has a limited number of tires up for grabs. For example, earlier this morning I saw that tires from last month’s Nürburgring 24 Hours were still on offer in the configurator.

However, as I’m writing this article in the afternoon, it looks like Goodyear is all out of rubber from the Green Hell. Plenty of fans are trying their luck to get one of Max Verstappen’s tires into their man-cave, I’m sure. There are still plenty of options for slicks raced on historic tracks, though, including Imola, Silverstone, and Spa.

Other parts that come with the tire include an optional bowl attachment, a tempered glass top, and an assembly of legs. The legs in particular come in six varying designs and heights, giving you plenty of options to match them with the rest of your furniture. This includes caster wheel bottoms for portability, or a higher coffee table option if you’re using it as a centerpiece.

The optional bowl is showcased in Goodyear’s lookbook as a sort of convenient built-in bucket you can fill with ice to keep drinks cool on a race weekend. I can see that space being used for other applications, though, like storage for a diorama or other memorabilia.

The options for a fully kitted-out Goodyear tire table top out at P21,900. All in all, not a bad price for an authentic piece of racing memorabilia, right? Well, it ships out from Europe and counts as furniture in customs’ eyes. Shipping your tire table to the Philippines costs an eye-watering P45,000—not counting import duties you’re bound to run into once it touches down in Manila. Oof.

Good buy or goodbye? We leave you to be the judge of that. Let us know what you think of Goodyear’s racing memorabilia in the comments.
